In a world that is becoming increasingly digital and fast-paced, the importance of "slowing down" and heading outside cannot be overstated. At I.Newton Preschool, outdoor play isn't just a "break" from learning - it is the learning. Whether it’s riding tricycles on our playground or exploring our Ever-blooming Garden, time spent in the fresh air is vital for a healthy, balanced childhood.
Physical Excellence Through Movement
Physical development in the early years is about more than just burning off energy. When children engage in active play—riding bikes, balancing on stepping stones, or playing catch-they are developing Gross Motor Skills.
These activities are essential for building:
Vestibular & Proprioceptive Systems: Helping children understand balance and where their body is in space.
Core Strength: Essential for maintaining focus and proper posture when they eventually sit at a desk to learn.
Physical Grit: Pushing their limits in a safe, supervised environment.
Social and Emotional Growth in the Sun
The playground is the first "social laboratory" for a child. Away from the structured seating of a classroom, children must navigate the complexities of human interaction. Under the guidance of our teachers, students learn to:
